Tech Essay
Not working hard enough is the usual response from parents about a child's poor grades, but what if that isn't the case at all? Many kids worldwide are flunking or struggling in school because of the lack of much desired help. If I could create a new form of technology to make the classroom a better place, it would be an electronic, hands-on source of help for kids in any grade in any subject. This device would not only have amazing features, but it would be extremely useful in the classroom and help out students and teachers in so many different ways.
Imagine having all your notebooks, textbooks, lessons, and worksheets digitally programmed into a subject organized hand held; pretty neat right? This device would be the ultimate source of help for students in any grade or subject. It would resemble an IPad, small and slim, and would also contain apps of every subject needed. In these apps, there would be a list of possible selections including: lessons, notebooks, textbooks, worksheets, finished work, tests and quizzes, and grade reports. In seconds you could be flipping through pages of your textbook, reviewing notes and lessons, checking your grades, and many more. There would also be an option in the Language Arts app for typing up essays. Of course the teacher's would be slightly different; including answer keys, attendance check, and a class list allowing he or she to monitor all of the students' devices. The teacher could send worksheets to the students, which would appear in their "worksheets" option on their own device. They would then use a specially made pen to complete the assignment. After the work is done, the students would send it back to the teacher's device to be graded. With so many fantastic features, this device could be used in classrooms in tons of ways.
Completing work, typing essays, and reviewing notes and lessons are all examples of the uses of this device. With a special pen you can write in the answers to your homework like normal, except no paper and sharpening pencils. After you complete the assignment, you can simply send it off to your teacher right then and there. Absolutely no hassle is involved. If you are having trouble filling out the answers you can go the notes or lessons option to review what was learned that day. Also, instead of taking time for everyone to get in a line and quietly walk down to the computer lab, this device allows you to type essays in the Language Arts app. An on-screen key board would appear and the students would type their essays like usual. Although, these are just a few uses out of the thousands of uses available on this device.
This device would help students and teachers as well by keeping students organized, eliminating the duty to get a class worth of copies of worksheets, and allowing students to look back in notes and lessons when confused. With no papers to keep track of and everything organized by subject, students are no longer messy with their school materials. Teachers also don't have to run to the copy room to make copies of worksheets for the entire class. They would now be able to send the worksheet or lesson straight to the students' devices like an email. This would be easier on the teacher and eventually save a ton of paper. Also, students could look back at lessons and their notes when they don't understand an assignment. That would really help out the teacher as well instead of repeating him or herself over and over again. Over all, this device would help teachers and students in many ways.
In result, this device would help kids and teachers with many different things. If it were to be created, students would be more organized and have sources to look back at, and teachers would be able to save time by sending worksheets to the class electronically. We would save paper and the environment which is so important as well. We just can't keep using beat up, old text books, or continue wasting paper, schools need modern technology!

Our Future

Imagine a room filled with technology that we have never seen in our lives. Technology that we would never think could be in our own classroom. A strong advance in our classroom would make a huge difference in the way we learn lessons and our enjoyment. If I could create a new form of technology to make the classroom a better place, it would be touch tables.

What if you didn’t have to carry any books at all? And all of your information was kept in one small ball? This would be possible if we had touch tables. When we would walk into our classroom we will receive our ball from the teacher and would start our day. Already on there would be our lesson plan and our journal so we could copy and paste it in and review our lesson for the day. We could take all tests and quizzes within it. Also the teacher has control of all of the touch tables, however other students cannot touch your touch table. First of all you will have a hand scan and second a password. So your touch table will be yours and yours only. The touch table can be used for almost anything in the classroom.

Three ways that touch tables could be used in the classroom are lessons plans through the teachers touch tables, tests and quizzes would be preset, and you could do all of your assignments inside of it. You would go over the lesson plan with your teacher and you would read it together. At the beginning of the day your teacher will send the lesson plan to you and you would move it to your notebook. It will be the same with your test and quizzes. There will be a lock on the test and quizzes that the teacher can only unlock. Lastly, you will have to type in the assignments that are on the board and get started for the day. You will have assignments due in class and at home. You will be able to do bookwork at home not using the touch table. Touch tables are very helpful when it comes to not having backpacks, however they are also helpful for teachers and students.

Three ways touch tables help students and teachers is that the teacher knows the students are learning lessons well, students will not have to carry around a backpack, and there will be more organization for both students and teachers. The lessons will be the most important and now teachers know that students are getting the full lessons and not cutting them short. Also I think not having to carry a backpack around would be great. You won’t have to lug it around from class to class or worry about things getting stolen. Lastly, students won’t have to worry about losing papers or not having things with them. That will relieve a lot of stress off of students worried about their organization. Touch tables would benefit teachers and students in so many ways and these were only a few.
If I could create a new form of technology to make the classroom a better place, it would be touch tables. Touch tables will benefit our learning experience in so many ways. Touch tables will relieve stress off of students and teachers by how easy the system would be. It would keep teachers and students a lot more organized and things would run a lot smoother. I think education needs technology because with our technology age students would be more interested in learning. That’s why I think touch tables would be a great advance in technology in our classroom.

New Technology (Sorry I didn't finish Thurs.)

New Technology

            How would it feel to go back in time and see the Statue of Liberty being built, or George Washington lead his troops to a victory in the Revolutionary War? If I could create a new form of technology to make the classroom a better place, it would be a time machine. If we could create a time machine that travels to whatever place you want or whenever you want, it could enable us to learn more about our past and learn better from the mistakes we have made. It could also answer all of those pondering questions for scientists.
            A time machine could be one of the most thought provoking and mind boggling idea ever to be thought of. Many styles and versions of the time machine have been thought of and they are featured in many futuristic movies/shows. Many of the designs have been telephone booth styles, but if I could create it, it would be more of a comfortable chair model. You could lift up the arm rest and there would be a small screen with a keyboard to type your destination. This machine could transport you to whatever place and time you desire. Once you are done visiting your destination, you could press a big red button to take you back to the exact time and spot you started. There would also be a fully functional radio/music player, reclining option, and two cup holders to make your travels more enjoyable. This chair would have soft, comfortable micro fiber suede fabric covering it, with rolling wheels. With this new form of technology in the classroom, it could be used in many ways.
            This invention could be used in many ways in the classroom. With a time machine present, kids could go back in time to learn about the topic instead of reading it out of a book. Lessons, in history class especially, could become a lot more interesting by visiting the time and place of that days lesson. You could try and interact with all of the characters and learn in more detail of that event from an eyewitness. You could also go to certain times in history to answer all of those unanswered questions people have been wondering about. If you ever just had some thought about George Washington, for example, and how he led the Revolutionary War. You could go back in time and ask all of those questions and have George Washington answer them himself. You could also go on field trips in any class without the cost of busses and admission. The whole class at once could go on field trips whenever they are needed to. This could eliminate the cost of busses and admission for the school. Although it would cost a lot to supply the whole school with these chairs, it would save them money in the long run, after about thirty years.
            This new form of technology could help the teachers and students in many ways. Teachers could go to the time and place where they are teaching ahead of time, so they know what to expect for that days lesson. If they decide to stay in the classroom that day, the teacher would know what it was like and give the students the same experience while reading it. The teacher could also zip right to that time and place really quick if there was a question one of the students wanted to know. They could get a straight answer from them instead of having to look it up. (Sure beats the internet.) The teacher and student could be there and back in a jiffy. It could be beneficial to the students because if you asked any student, they would say that they would rather take notes in the middle of Galileo’s experiments, than watch a boring reenactment of it on a video. It could also benefit them because it could be a hands on experience and they could ask them questions that their teachers probably couldn’t have answered themselves. The students would learn more and so would the teachers. The class could also take field trips without really even leaving the classroom. Most students would say that time travel alone would be a lot more fun than their third trip to the zoo. You wouldn’t have to pay for buses or admission into the place. Also, there wouldn’t be any signs saying “no touching” and it would be the adventure of a lifetime in a day.
            A time machine could be new technology that could make the classroom a better place. Time travel is every kid’s dream, and to give them that opportunity while educating them is the best possible solution. If we had time traveling devices, it could teach us about our past in more detail and answer all of those unanswered questions for kids, teachers, and scientists alike. If we could relate the latest technology to our students’ educations, it could change the way people think, and it could be a new revolution for our country.

PLEASE DO THIS FOR Tuesday 2/8

1)Read the following song lyrics:

Hands by Jewel

If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
Poverty stole your golden shoes
It didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But I knew it wasn't ever after
We'll fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
'Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
I am never broken
In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
We are never broken
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's mind
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's heart
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's eyes
We are God's hands
We are God's hands

2)Metaphor Cafe Activity

Draw your hand and list inside the answers to these questions. The content of the answers is more important than the prettiness of the drawing.

Fingers:

Pinky - What do you worry about?

Ring - What are the obstacles you face?

Biggest finger - What was the biggest obstacle you overcame?

Pointer finger - What or who has tried to block your direction; what has hindered your ability to be yourself?

Hand -

Thumb - What important skills have you gained in your life so far?

Palm - What is the core of your strength, either physically, spiritually, or emotionally? What or who shapes those values? From whom do you gain wisdom?

Wrist - What do you stand up for that often has no voice? What are your causes?

Mr. B’s Rule:
You write what you are ready and willing to write. No annonomous people here. And nobody is going to say that people can’t read what they wrote about themselves.

Tuesday, Feb 1st Assignment

As I told you previously, I am in meetings all day. Therefore, you will have a guest teacher today. Be good! :)

Listed below are the explorations I would like you to do today.

1)FINISH THIS ASSIGNMENT IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY. In your history day groups, Go to: http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents
This is a page on the white house's website. Focus on the presidents below.

Our Presidents

* 1. George Washington
* 2. John Adams
* 3. Thomas Jefferson
* 4. James Madison
* 5. James Monroe

Read each president's biography on the web pages. Make a concise summary of the importance and affect that president had on our country. Imagine how our country would be different without each president. Go to glogster.com and make a glob with this info. This assignment is worth 50 points and will be on Quarter 3's grades.

2) Your history project is due on Monday…finished completely. You need to make sure this is done today. Remember…this is worth a significant amount of points!

3) If you are all done with these assignments, then you can do an extra credit assignment: Choose 3 of the following writers from the early 1800’s. Research them. Create an innovative compare and contrast visual using a technology. Email the finished product to me. Washington Irvin, James Fenimore Cooper, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and, Nathaniel Hawthorne.
