HOW TO WALK A HAMSTER!
Almost all domesticated hamsters originated from Syria and were brought to labs in the late 1800’s. They were great to scientists because their cardio-vascular system is so similar to ours. They bred quickly and were almost always disease free so the public quickly gained interest. They were brought to America in 1938 and widely spread.

SUPPLIES NEEDED.
1.) Your hamster of choice
2.) Your good walking shoes
3.)Hamster on a harness.
4.)Snacks and water, which can be stored in a plastic bag and a regular water bottle,
or travel packs found at the pet store.
5.) A good location, for example your calm neighborhood or a small park.

Step 1. BUYING SUPPLIES.
You can buy a collar or harness for your hamster online, or at a local pet store. Be sure the collar or harness fits, and isn’t to large or to small for the animal. Buy water and snacks, as well, in case your hamster becomes overwhelmed, or too hot.

2. PICKING A ROUTE AND LOCATION.
When picking a route for your walk, take into consideration the size of their legs. Hamsters have small legs so make sure to choose a short distance that won’t tire them out or overwork their legs. Make sure to pick a location that won’t have a place for the hamster to escape and run off to. The best time of day to walk your hamster is earlier afternoon, before it is too bright but not during the cold morning. The hot sun might damage and burn the rodent’s feet, as well as coldness, which might numb the hamster from head to toe.
Nice neighborhood.

3. BEGINNING YOUR JOURNEY.
By now you should have all the supplies needed to take a successful walk. Put the leash on your hamster and make sure you do it delicately. If you harass the rodent while putting it on you could get bit. Keep in mind that you have to have a good time to walk the hamster. Look in the “warnings” label for further information.
Your harness usually has two holes that are used to put their front legs in. Put in one at a time and be gently with your hamster. Don’t shove their legs through, this can cause breaking of the bones or extensive damage.
When starting your walk, set the hamster down gently on the ground. Let your hamster lead about a foot or so away from you. Do not walk too fast or drag your hamster behind you. Let them walk at a pace that is comfortable for them. Take a small break about 5 minutes into the walk to check up on your hamster. If they seem tired, go home or supply them with food and water to hydrate them and give them more energy. Your pet is probably not used to all the exercise, so take baby steps.
