  1. On the essay page, title it "My 8th Grade Essays (Please refer to the summaries following each essay)

    8th Grade Writing Reflection

I feel like the top three writing pieces were the essays I enjoyed the most doing(.) (get rid of and)and(They) they were the best written and I put in the most effort (no on)on. I feel like I grew a bunch(find synonym for bunch) over the course of the year because my transitions were improved on and I learned a lot of new techniques for making my writing better and improving my grammar and word usage. This will help me in my writing, as I get older(,) because this year has shown me the ways of writing almost every kind of essay you would need to know going into H(h)igh S(s)chool. This gave me almost all of the information I would need to (create)make (effective)good writing in H(h)igh S(s)chool. I(t) will also give me all of the tools that I need to become successful in life whenever writing would need to be used. The technology that has evolved throughout the year has helped me tremendously in my writing skills because of the access to the I(i)nternet and the time in the lab has given me all of the time I need to complete all of my essays with my full ability. “I love talking about nothing. It is the only thing I know anything about.” ~Oscar Wilde I feel this quote relates to me because (Get rid of:I feel that this is true about me because) I don’t really know one topic to write about. Everything flows into each other and nothing turns into something wonderful.(VERY GOOD!)

  2. 1.) I think that the Civil War was the most interesting (get rid of:to me) to learn about. I got(was able) to learn about the c(C)ivil w(W)ar before I went to Pennsylvania on the D.C. trip when we went to an actual battle spot. We also reviewed it when we got back, so it was fun to reflect back on the places we went and the events that happened. It also had a lot more action in it compared to some other topics we covered like the making of the Declaration of Independence. It was an interesting topic throughout the classroom, so it gave a better atmosphere to learn in with it being a highly interesting topic to talk about. I thought it was very relateable topic to today because of the war occurring now and learning from our mistakes.

2.) I think that Abraham Lincoln was the most interesting person to talk about because of the impact he had on our world today. He was our 16th president who was in term while the Civil War was in full action. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in Fords Theater and was the first president to be assassinated. He deeply impacted the United States by fighting against the use of slavery across America. This changed me as a person because I could be influenced with different beliefs and my opinion towards (people of other races)other colored skinned people. Our world today would be very different in our approach towards different races and I’m not sure who would have put an end to it if it wasn’t honest Abraham Lincoln.

3.) “History repeats itself, has to, nobody listens.” ~Steve Turner This quote explains history in itself in that history is always repeating itself. This happens so we don’t make the same mistakes we made the first time. We keep making the same mistakes as a country. Nobody is paying attention to the past to learn from what works and what doesn’t work in relation to success. I can relate to this because I am a part of this country and the decisions we make can affect the future tremendously. The kids are the futures(no s) of America and we need to keep America f(r)unning as smoothly as possible.

4.) Knowing the(No the) United States history is very important for the kids in the country (no:to know) because we learn from our mistakes and our history is our way of learning. The past is always repeating itself and to keep our country running smoothly, we need to pay attention to the past and learn from the mistakes we have made. We keep making the same mistakes today; the more the country will spiral to an end. Once we learn that the choices we made in the past were wrong, we could make the write choices and strive as a country!

  3. Portfolio Summary Questions

1.) Many characteristics have become noticeable throughout these two years at Joan MacQueen. I have definitely matured a lot with the teachers I have had and changed in my approach to learning new things. They(the teachers) have also prepared me for high school by teaching me everything I need to know to continue on to high school levels. Through these years, I have become a lot more confident and I now thrive to learn new things.

2.) When working collaboratively in a group, I bring focus into our group. I offer my opinion if I have a different perspective on the subject. As I keep the group focused and on task, people will continue to bring their ideas to the table. I will help to expand on those ideas and spark new ideas to keep the group on the topic. (GREAT!!!)

3.) I don’t think I would do anything differently if I went back and did these years over again. I am extremely happy with all of the decisions I have made as a middle school student. All of my grades were just at the level I wanted them to be. I also became good friends with many people and I am happy with all of (my)the teachers (Get rid of:I have gotten.) I think I am pretty(find synonym for pretty) ready for high school(,) considering all of the work I have done this year and everything I have learned. Everything is going smoothly and I hope it will continue that way in high school.
4.) If I gave advice about succeeding in middle school to a sixth grader, it would (be) to stay on top of your grades. (;)Don’t get distracted with everything else happening, no matter how tough it is. Also, keep a time schedule for your assignments. Once you get behind on your work, everything catches up to you and you end up with D’s on your report card. Just keep on task, and focus on doing your work. Also, give one hundred percent effort on all of the work you do.

5.) I would(will) get involved with high school activities as much as possible, like going to the dances and attending sporting events for the school. I will also be playing sports of my own and to continue to work hard at them. This will keep me involved in what is happening at school and give me all of the experiences I need to become a successful high school graduate.

6.) In my crystal ball, I would hope to see a strong, confident graduate that got a scholarship to help pay for his tuition to a four year university. I will hope to have a job and help pay for my tuition with my parents in support of my dreams to get a degree in college. I will be happy, my parents proud of me, and I am(get rid of am) prepared for the college experience ahead of me. (YOU WILL BE ALL OF THOSE THINGS!)

7.) My creative challenge project for the next four years would be to recycle all that I could and help make the world a greener place. I could do this with many of my research resources I have to change the world. Creating a better world for everyone would make everyone happier and the world would be a better place to live in for mankind.
