Abortion
Imagine taking away someone else's privilege to live; destroying whatever fate it held with strong chemicals causing a miscarriage. Who would do that? Approximately 42 million people worldwide kill their babies every year. That means about 42 million people never had the chance to prove that they were worth carrying around for 9 months. Aborting isn't even necessary and there are so many alternatives. This is a problem that's been going on for many years, yet nobody has come up with any solutions. Deciding to abort your baby may be an emotional, stressful time but what if there was a way that nobody had to be harmed? Perhaps adoption, or simply using protection is the answer. Aborting your baby is painful, unacceptable and morally wrong; if there are other alternatives like adoption or prevention it wouldn't make any sense to not take them.
Abortion is a problem that's been occurring for many years. Since the American legalization of abortion, January 22, 1973, the yearly termination rates continue climbing. "93 percent of abortions occur because the baby was not wanted," (abortionno.org). It is a shame that when people aren't careful enough and accidently become pregnant that they think it's okay to go and have their baby killed. Satisfied with the fact that it's just an "embryo" and not technically a baby yet, many people turn to abortion every year. "I know that my baby is in a good home now, that makes me happy to think that she will live a good life, and I will too because I can finish school and go to college," Megan, a 15 year old high school student, shared. There are also people like Megan that carefully considered all their choices and then selected adoption. If there were more people like her, that are aware of all the alternatives, then abortion rates would surely drop a fair amount.
An alternative to abortion would be adoption. "When I was 19 I became pregnant for the first time. Our thoughts were to have an abortion because of how scared we were at the thought of not being able to raise our child. We researched options and after could not decide. We decided adoption would be the best for our little Cameron," Lauren shared on teenbreaks.com. Adoption would fit anybody's budget and you wouldn't have to abort or take care of the baby. Many people would agree with Lauren's decision since she is only 19 and still has to get financially stable enough to raise a child. Some people would say that abortion is easier than adoption, but that isn't necessarily true. Abortion can be considered quicker, but is followed by extreme abdomen pain, bleeding, checkups, and possibly illnesses. Many people often are filled with regret after abortion, due to them killing their own child. However adoption is much simpler, costs nothing, and doesn't take a life.
Adoption isn't the only solution to stop abortion; it would also be easier on everybody if everyone could simply use protection until financially stable and ready to have a baby. " Protection is not expensive when you consider the possibilities of what could happen to you or your partner should you choose not to use them," a source stated. Most everyone would agree with that statement realizing that it could cost hundreds of dollars for an abortion, 9 months of your time for an adoption, and only a couple minutes and a couple dollars to buy protection. If more people realized that they could even find free protection at certain health clinics; the rates of abortion would surely drop. However, some people would say that it's embarrassing to just walk into a store and buy that kind of stuff. Wouldn't it be more embarrassing getting your partner pregnant and then dealing with the consequences?
When you have cheaper and less stressful options than abortion, why not take them? By simply using protection or giving your baby up for adoption you have both saved money and a life. Hopefully the rates of abortion will drop in the near future, but anyone can help by making smarter choices about protection and considering, or helping a friend consider adoption rather than abortion. We can't just let another 42 million babies go to waste each year, something needs to be done immediately!
