The Life Story of Myrna Mora
Good things can come out of a bad situation. At the age of only 21, sheMyrna was in a life changing car accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down. Before this event, she led a normal life, with her two brothers and family. On December 9, 1951, Myrna Eliza Mora was born in San Diego, CA, byto Beatriz and Enrique Mora. She began her adventure we all call life in North Park, CA, as the middle daughter of two brothers, Enrique and Carlos. Myrna started her education at McKinley Elementary School. You don't need this hear. Myrna’s life before the accident, the experience of the accident, and her life following it has given her many life lessons and experiences.
In the early years of her life, before the accident, Myrna led a very typical life for a young child. She attended McKinley Elementary and St. Patrick’s Elementary in North Park, Ca., up to the eighth grade in the early 50’s and 60’s. North Park was a formal neighborhood to live in and she made good friends easily and enjoyed where she lived. She then had to move over to Wilson Middle for ninth grade, and transfer again to Hoover High School for the rest of high school. For her early years, she enjoyed going to her grandmother’s ranch in Mexico and live a ranch lifestyle in the summer time. She got to ride horses, milk the cows, and help her uncle sell food at his roadside stand. She also helped her grandma make fresh tortillas and homemade cheese. Typically after school, she went over to her parent’s grocery stores and helped stock shelves or be the cashier. She didn’t have the greatest relationships with her brothers. She just wasn’t interested in what they liked to do, so she always hung out with the adults. With this kind of childhood, you could have never guessed what happens next. In May of 1973, Myrna was on her way home from a camping trip with her family when a very unexpected thing happened; she was involved in a life changing car accident. She was taken to the hospital and they pronounced her with a T-7 injury in her spine. This left her paralyzed from the waist down, giving her no feeling whatsoever in her legs. The doctors said that she would never walk again. She was forced to stay in the hospital for a whole year. She had many surgeries to make her back as normal as could be. Also, she had to do many, many hours of physical therapy to make her body strong again. This incident has caused her to be wheelchair bound for the rest of her life. After her year was up, she got to go home, but still had to continue the physical therapy to keep her in tiptop shape. As for a job, she did a lot of volunteer work for the hospital she was in. She played with and read to the little kids who would be there for a long time to help raise the childrens' spirits. While she was dealing with the accident, her dad had Alzheimer’s disease. She needed to help him recoveryou don't recover from alzheimers and had to spend a lot of time with him. Although this accident was very tragic, it brought her some joy and fun experiences with new people.
After this tragic accident, many things in Myrna’s life changed, while she also experienced many other exciting things. Myrna still went camping with her family in San Felipe in Mexico every year and it was the time of her life. She also traveled a lot wit her friends for jobs and just for fun. She went all over Mexico, and went to Hawaii a few times for vacation. She also needed to travel places to find jobs to keep her family running. Myrna worked very hard to keep her dad healthy and make a living to support the rest of her family. While she wasn’t on vacation, she was helping take care of her dad when he was sick. Once her father passed away, she came to Pine Valley to be close to her brother. She had many responsibilities like babysitting all of her nieces and nephews and their kids also. Although she couldn’t go many places or travel to any vacation spots, she did have the privilege to baby sit very special kids of her brother, Aaron Mora and Evan Mora. Myrna also went camping with their family. Her mom also got sick and she had to take care of her while she was in the hospital. Her mom also ended up dying from age.what does age mean? Today, she does a lot of volunteer work for the elementary school in Pine Valley and the local library. She does art with the kids at school and entertainment of different kinds at the library. Myrna Mora lives in a small house in Pine Valley right down the street from her brother.
Myrna’s experiences before the car accident, the life and death accident, and her life after the scary situation have affected her in many ways. She is in a wheelchair, but that doesn’t stop her from doing the things she wants to do. Everyone in Pine Valley knows her and respects her in many ways. She is very social person and loves to make friends. She is always there for you if you need it and is a loving and caring aunt.I can hear how much you love your aunt...however, explain how everything that has happened in her life has affected her.
