Great joy always has a price to pay. A perfect example would be Traci Roberts’ life. Traci was born in June 15, 1964. She was born in Montclair California and into a small family with one sister, Kim, and two loving parents, Donna and Steve. Mrs. Roberts has had a tough childhood, but from that childhood she has learned a lot.
At 11 years of age Traci experienced one of the most frightening time of her life. As she was driving home, at about 4:00 to 5:00, she, Kim, and her mom were heading up their large street. She noticed police cars, ambulances, and huge fire engines. “My dad was working on the roof and I thought he had fallen off.” She was nervous just thinking of it. Approaching the house, the police stopped her mom’s car. Donna told the police it was their home and the police let them through. The sirens flashed in their eyes as she found out that 4 boys had died. They had been partying and drinking up the hill where there was a cul-de-sac. As they were carelessly driving back home, the driver crashed in my mom’s front yard. He was decapitated. 2 other boys were flown in the bushes and under my grandpa’s car. When he was flown under the automobile, he managed to survive but sadly died in the back of the ambulance. The last person past away in the back of the car. I have been told time and time again how freaky it was for her to walk outside her front door, “ I was a little queasy walking outside knowing 4 people had died here.” This taught her that foolish things could change your life forever. At least for those boys it did. Although this could have changed her life forever in a bad way, she did have a very enjoyable life.
Traci and Kim were always finding some way to have fun. They would play hide and seek alone, dolls, and other silly games they would make up. They even played the grape game, it was a made up game. You would hide anywhere you want and then the person who tags would try to find you. “You would know you were found because grapes would be dangled in front of your face” replied Traci. They also lived with a lot of smelly animals. Her favorite was their old donkey Mr. Pedley. “It was a real treat to ride him.” Says Traci. Her dad would lead her around on a rope in circles. She didn’t get to ride him much because her sister got bucked off of him and her broke her arm. Her favorite possessions as a child were her blanket, Blankey, and her doll Chi Chi. Experiences in her childhood have helped her become the wonderful person she is today. Traci has raised 6 loving children with her husband Tom. She loves them more than anything else. “My kids are definitely my biggest success.” So far her 2 oldest have left, Calvin and Cameron, to college. Her oldest daughter, Kjersti, is now a junior at Granite Hills High School. Blake and Annika both go to Joan MacQueen Middle School. Last but certainly not least, McKay, who is 8, goes to Boulder Oaks Elementary School. “Even though they make me angry at times I still love them.” All the time her kids make her angry and she is always patient, most of the time. She is very compassionate towards her children and loves them a lot.
